Billy Connolly attends 169th Lonach Gathering

Scottish comedian Billy Connolly attended the 169th Lonach Gathering in Aberdeenshire on Saturday 28th August with wife Pamela Stephenson.

The event, held each year in Strathdon, features Highland Games and marching pipers.

Scottish Education Minister holds curriculum Q&A session

Scottish Education Minister Michael Russell MSP held a public question and answer session about the curriculum at Inverurie Academy, Aberdeenshire on Tuesday 10th August 2010.

“I firmly believe Scotland has a great system of education, with many, many good schools, teachers and pupils. Curriculum for Excellence is all about building on the strengths of the current system and making sure all pupils have the skills they need for the jobs of the future,” Mr Russell said.

“I know that some parents still have questions about the new curriculum. I recently wrote to the parents of every Primary 7 child and now I’m taking to the road to give them a chance to have their say and have their questions answered.”

Edinburgh Military Tattoo celebrates 60th anniversary

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a line-up including daredevil motorcyclists, army bands from around the world and award-winning pipe music.

“2010 will see one of the most colourful productions we’ve staged in the northern hemisphere”, said Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer Major General Euan Loudon.

“This special show features a celebration of 60 years of the Tattoo, recognising the incredible encouragement the Tattoo has received from some 12 million people who have now walked across the Castle Esplanade to witness the annual gathering.”

Three children killed in ‘suspicious’ incident

Three children were killed in an incident at a townhouse on Edinburgh’s Slateford Road on Wednesday 4th August 2010. The deaths were initially believed to have been caused by a gas explosion, but police are now treating the incident as suspicious.
