Bookmakers William Hill are preparing for a loss of over £100,000 in Scotland as white Christmas betting was closed today.

Bets were taken that a single snowflake will fall on one of three Scottish landmarks on Christmas Day; Edinburgh Castle, the Glasgow Cathedral and Aberdeen’s Pittodrie stadium.

One punter placed a £2,500 bet that snow will fall in Aberdeen and over 27,000 bets have been placed across the UK.

The official verdict will be announced on Boxing Day by the Met Office, who will use radars, webcams and the opinions of experienced forecasters to declare whether or not snow fell at the locations.

The closing odds were 5/6 for Aberdeen and 10/11 for Edinburgh & Glasgow.
