next year, with heavy snowfall and widespread frost forecast.

Northern and Eastern areas will be hit worst, with further sleet and snow showers predicted.

Up to 20cm of snow is expected to fall in the Scottish Highlands overnight, with temperatures forecast as low as -15°.

Grampian Police Chief Inspector David Wright said: “Our primary duty is to protect the public.

“If people are in any doubt as to whether they will reach their destination or be able to get home, our message is simple – stay at home.”
